The Beneteau Oceanis 473 is a well-regarded offshore cruising yacht, combining performance, comfort, and seaworthiness. Designed by Groupe Finot, this 47-foot sailing vessel is a proven passagemaker, ideal for bluewater cruising or luxurious coastal adventures.

Construction:

The Beneteau Oceanis 473 features a solid fiberglass hull with a balsa-cored deck, a construction method that balances strength, weight reduction, and insulation. 

Hull Construction:

  • Material: Solid fiberglass (hand-laid) with polyester resin
  • Method: One-piece hull mold for structural integrity
  • Reinforcement: Internal fiberglass grid structure bonded to the hull for strength and rigidity
  • Keel Attachment: Cast iron keel, bolted and bonded to a reinforced keel sump

Deck Construction:

  • Material: Balsa-cored fiberglass sandwich for strength and weight reduction
  • Anti-Skid Surface: Molded non-skid pattern for enhanced grip
  • Hull-to-Deck Joint: Bonded and mechanically fastened with stainless steel bolts and a reinforced inward flange for durability

Rudder & Steering System:

  • Rudder: Spade rudder with stainless steel stock
  • Steering: Dual helm stations with cable linkage to quadrant
  • Emergency Tiller: Provided as a backup

Bulkheads & Interior Structure:

  • Bulkheads: Marine-grade plywood, securely bonded to hull and deck for rigidity

Hull was taken down to the fiberglass then professionally redone with epoxy then 6 layers of antifouling (2020)
